Northstowe green separation

The Cambridgeshire Structure Plan 2003 (Policy P9/3) requires that "a sustainable high quality settlement will be built at Longstanton/Oakington, located to the east of Longstanton and to the north of Oakington". It states that "there will be green separation between the new development and existing communities to maintain village character of Longstanton and Oakington".

It is for the South Cambridgeshire Local Development Framework (LDF) through the Northstowe Area Action Plan to apply the Structure Plan policy requirements at the local level. This will include developing a clear definition of the role and function of the green separation, consistent with the Structure Plan policy. Also important will be to determine the appropriate form of green separation in terms of its extent and treatment to ensure it properly achieves that role and purpose. This paper explores those issues.
