Inspectors' Binding Reports

The major documents which make up the Local Development Framework are known as Development Plan Documents (DPD). After an extensive consultation and review process, DPDs are subject to an independent Examination by Planning Inspectors appointed by the Secretary of State.

At the end of an Examination, the Inspector(s) will release a report into the "soundness" of the Council's DPD, which will, if necessary and practicable, make changes to the DPD to make it "sound". These changes are binding on the Council, and once a successful report is received, declaring a DPD "sound", the Council can adopt the DPD as planning policy.

South Cambs Council has so far had three DPDs adopted: the Core Strategy DPD in January 2007, and the Development Control Policies DPD and Northstowe Area Action Plan in July 2007.
