Planning Application Forms

1APP - Changes to Planning Application Forms

A Standard Planning Application Form (1APP) has been introduced across England. It replaces all existing types of planning application forms, except for mineral workings.

The reason for the new system is that there has, up to now, been a large number of different paper planning application forms across the country because individual councils have been responsible for designing and supplying their own forms. These have varied considerably in style and content and inevitably displayed inconsistencies in the detail and level of information requested.

The lack of consistency and confusion over individual requirements has often led to invalid submissions. By having standard planning application forms across the country, planning professionals and citizens will find completing and submitting applications quicker and easier. Also, when an applicant or their agent submits two or more related applications at the same time (e.g. a full planning application and an application for listed building consent), separate forms will no longer have to be submitted for each application.

Electronic 1APP

We encourage you to submit your planning application on line via the national Planning Portal (This link will open in a new window).

The online form intelligently determines the planning consent required and specifies the local planning authority's additional information requirements, significantly increasing the chances of a valid application being submitted first time. This benefits both the applicant and the LPA staff who process the application, potentially resulting in a faster decision.

Other Forms

Online submissions of applications through the Planning Portal will advise applicants of the relevant fee directly. Should you wish to submit an application manually, the following form will advise of the relevant fee.

If you apply for planning permission for land/property that you do not own you must notify the owners of you intentions. This form can be used to notify the owner.

If you apply to carry out works to a listed building that you do not own you must notify the owners of you intentions. This form can be used to notify the owner.
