Cambridgeshire Green Vision

The Cambridgeshire Green Vision is an exciting 20-year plan to improve quality of life for residents of the county both now and in the future. It's about enhancing the environment for both people and wildlife.

More areas of the countryside will be available to walk, ride and cycle in. There will be an increase in the number of country parks, and visitor attractions will be improved and expanded. Wildlife will benefit from increases in areas of wetland, fen, woodland and grassland and improvements to rivers and farmland.

Village Green Spaces

Volunteers lead by the Cambridge Green Belt Project clearing up the village green at Foxton

Following the successful pilot Village Green Space schemes at Orwell and Elsworth, the Council launched a district wide Village Green Space scheme in 2004/05.

The latest project to come forward under this scheme is at Foxton, where the Foxton Dovecote Meadow project has been awarded a grant of £5,000.  This funding will support the implementation of an agreed management plan for the site, in order to positively manage the area for wildlife and quiet enjoyment. In addition to the Council's grant, £25,000 was secured by the Friends of Foxton Dovecote Meadow from the Local Heritage Initiative via the Countryside Agency for the restoration of the old Dovecote, for habitat management training and for the production of educational leaflets together with a site information board.

The implementation of the project will ensure the long-term future of the Dovecote and both protect and enhance the grassland interest of the meadow. Local people will be able to enjoy a semi-natural green space within the heart of their village whilst learning about the history of the site.
