We cover wildlife, ecology, biodiversity, protected and other species, habitats, county wildlife sites, sites of special scientific interest and nature reserves.

Our main services

  • Responding to general wildlife enquiries from the general public, parish councils and other professionals
  • Advising our Development Control colleagues on planning applications affecting wildlife
  • Advising on housing growth and other changes with similar impacts
  • Producing policy and guidance
  • Advising the Land Drainage Manager on best practice when carrying out operations
  • Running the wildlife enhancement scheme which gives grants to community organizations, parishes, the public and others
  • Leading local interest groups and helping to co-ordinate community activities that conserve and enhance wildlife
  • Supporting the conservation and enhancement of wildlife sites and nature reserves (below for lead bodies)
  • Celebrating and promoting South Cambridgeshire's biodiversity
  • Supporting the delivery of 6 community orchards.

Wildlife crime matters should be reported direct to the Police on 999 if a crime is in progress. For non emergency issues call 0845 4564564 and ask for the matter to be directed to the Police Wildlife Liaison Officer.
