Felling Licence

Background

A felling licence may be required in certain felling operations, and these are administered by the Forestry Commission.

Requirements

If you are felling more than five cubic metres of wood in one calendar quarter and selling more than two cubic metres then a licence may be required.

There are exceptions and these are in the Forestry Act 1967 and Regulations made under this Act e.g. felling trees in a garden not afforded protection under Conservation Area or Tree Preservation Order designation

Contravention of the felling licence controls can incur substantial penalties
