Green Infrastructure
What is Green Infrastructure?
'Green Infrastructure' describes a flourishing network of public open spaces and routes, landscapes, wildlife habitats and heritage sites, set within our towns and wider countryside.
Green Infrastructure combines and delivers a range of benefits from recreation to reducing the impacts of climate change. It is a key to keeping and creating attractive, stimulating, healthy and enjoyable places to live. Like roads and schools, Green Infrastructure is a fundamental building block of successful new communities.
Green Vision - Cambridgeshire Green Infrastructure Strategy
Cambridgeshire Horizons recently consulted on an updated Strategy to deliver Green Infrastructure in the county to 2031 and beyond. The Strategy (This link will open in a new window) includes a network of Green Infrastructure - made up of outdoor places and spaces such as rivers, country parks, wildlife habitats, historic sites, woodlands and rights of way - and projects that will help deliver it.
Cambridge Horizons are now busy working through all the feedback that was received from the recent consultation.
South Cambridgeshire District Council is one of a wide range of partners who have helped inform and shape the development of the Strategy.
How are we involved?
South Cambridgeshire District Council works with other public, voluntary and private sector organisations to deliver Green Infrastructure. The Cambridgeshire Green Vision is an exciting 20 year plan to enhance local places and improve people's quality of life.
