Disabled Relief

If you or someone who lives in your property is permanently and substantially disabled, you may be able to get a reduction in your council tax if one of the following conditions is met:

  • There is an extra bathroom or kitchen in your property, which is needed by the disabled person
  • There is space for a wheelchair to be used in your property and it is essential that a wheelchair is used whilst indoors
  • There is a room used mainly by the disabled person to meet their needs because they are disabled

The bill may be reduced to that of a property in the band shown on the valuation list.

If your property is already in band A, you will receive a reduction of 1/9th of the band D charge.

These reductions ensure that disabled people do not pay more tax on account of space needed because of their disability.

For further details please contact the Council Tax service.
