Collecting Council Tax

South Cambridgeshire District Council is responsible for collecting council tax from residents or people who own dwellings within its area. The money we collect helps to pay for local services.

The money we collect helps to finance the services we provide but we also collect money on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council (This link will open in a new window), Cambridgeshire Police Authority (This link will open in a new window), and the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Fire Authority (This link will open in a new window). The following table shows a breakdown of the charge for a band D property for each of the main local authorities involved.

AuthorityRate for band D
South Cambridgeshire District Council£115.46
Cambridgeshire County Council£1,047.78
Cambridgeshire Police Authority£169.56
Cambridgeshire Fire Authority£57.87
TOTAL:£1390.67

You may not be aware of the full range of services provided by your local authorities. Information about the Council Tax in South Cambridgeshire and the wide range of services it helps to pay for is available:

We want to make it easier for you to understand where your money goes and how local councils are working together to make South Cambridgeshire a better and safer place to live and work. We hope the booklet helps to do that.

The Council Tax for South Cambridgeshire District Council for 2011/2012 was set at £115.46 for a band D property by a meeting of the full Council on the 24th of February 2011. This is the same charge as that set for 2010/2011.
