Local Government Review in respect of the Parish of West Wickham - Increase in the Number of Parish Councillors

The Local Government Public Involvement in Health 2007 - The South Cambridgeshire District Council (Re-organisation of Community Governance) Order 2011 relating to the Parish of West Wickham

An Order was made under the above legislation on the 19th January 2011 whereby the number of Parish Councillors for the Parish of West Wickham will be increased to seven to take effect from the 5th May 2011 which is the date of the next Parish Council election. This follows a request from the said Parish following which all of the legal requirements in respect of the above Act have been complied with.

A copy of the Order may be inspected within the Legal Department of the District Council within working hours the said Order having been on deposit for that purpose.

Community Governance Review - 14 October 2010

S79 Local Government and Public Involvement in Health act 2007.

South Cambridgeshire District Council at a meeting of the Electoral Arrangements Committee on the 14th October 2010 decided to carry out a Community Governance Review on the following matter:

West Wickham Parish Council have requested that the number of parish councillors for their area be increased from 5 to 7. The reasons for the request can be summarised as follows:

To deal with an increased amount of business
To ensure that all parts of the parish are adequately represented due to the 'spread out nature' of the parish
To allow more people to be involved in local matters as a number of people have expressed an interest in serving
To make the ratio of councillors to electors more in line with adjacent parishes
To bring the number of councillors in line with other parishes
To enable proper representation on associated bodies in the parish to which parish councillors are elected

Consultation with interested parties took place in December 2010.
