Disability equality scheme

South Cambridgeshire District Council is fully committed to eliminating disability inequality and promoting equality between people from different backgrounds. We recognise that there are differences in people's life chances, what services they gain access to and the types of jobs they do.

The Council's disability equality scheme will show how we intend to fulfil the specific duties relating to the Disability Discrimination Act and will outline our disability equality objectives.

The Council's revised Disability Equality Scheme 2009 - 2012 was formally adopted on 17 November 2010 and can be viewed below.

The scheme comes in six parts.

  • Part one provides an introduction to the Disability Discrimination Act 2005, and it's context in South Cambridgeshire.
  • Part two offers specific detail on South Cambridgeshire demography and the Council's role as a service provider, community leader and employer.
  • Part three highlights how the revised scheme has been developed and commits the Council to a programme of monitoring and review.
  • Part four provides an opportunity to look back at what the Council has already done in terms of disability equality.
  • Part five discusses what the Council sees as its priorities for the duration of the scheme.
  • Part six is an action plan that sets out how the new Disability Equality Scheme will be delivered.

The previous Disability Equality Scheme for 2006-2009 was agreed at a meeting of the full Council on 23 November 2006.
