About South Cambridgeshire District Council
The district:
- a mostly rural area set in 350 square miles of countryside
- a population of over 139,000 residents dispersed among 105 settlements
- consists only of rural settlements with no towns
- a prosperous area with high levels of economic activity and low levels of unemployment; but with increasing house prices and a shortage of affordable homes
- a healthy area, with high life expectancy compared with national rates
- an area with the lowest crime rate in Cambridgeshire

As well as regular meetings of the Council, SCDC operates a leader and cabinet system of decision-making. There is a Scrutiny & Overview Committee, a Corporate Governance Committee and a Standards Committee, and a number of regulatory committees, including the Planning Committee and the Licensing Committee.
