Composition of SCDC

South Cambridgeshire District Council operated as a shadow authority in its first year of existence, 1973-74, as the former Chesterton and South Cambridgeshire Rural District Councils transferred their powers to SCDC. From 1973-76 there were 53 members of SCDC. An electoral boundary review was carried out prior to the 1976 elections, following which, 55 members were elected to the Council. A further periodic electoral review has been conducted in recent years and the Council increased to 57 members, after the elections on 10 June 2004; some existing ward boundaries were also changed.
