Chairman with Chains

The Chairman of South Cambridgeshire District Council is the first citizen of the district and is elected to the post by fellow councillors at the Council's annual meeting in May each year. The role of Chairman is non-political and during his or her term in office, the Chairman puts aside council duties to concentrate on the role.

Councillor Tony Orgee was elected to the role in May 2011, having served his first year as Vice-Chairman in 2010/11. Vice Chairman Councillor David Bard also took up the reins in May 2011.

The Chairman carries out approximately 100 social engagements every year. These include attending civic functions, opening ceremonies, religious festivals, sporting fixtures, concerts, fundraising, promotional events and more.
