Chairman's Biography

Councillor Tony Orgee

Tony was born in Worcester and attended the local state grammar school. He gained a chemistry degree at Imperial College, London, and a postgraduate teaching certificate from King's College, London.

After teaching in Windsor for Berkshire County Council, Tony moved into teacher education and educational research. He later worked for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, until taking early retirement in 2008.

Tony moved to Sawston in1975 and later to Little Abington. He is married to Freda, and their children, Alexander and Catherine, went to Great Abington Primary School and then Linton Village College.

Tony was elected to the district council for the Sawston ward (1983 - 1987) and more recently The Abingtons ward (2006 to date). Tony is also a county councillor for the Sawston area.

Tony has served on the District Council's Scrutiny Committee, and was one of two councillors who chaired the council's national award winning review of the Orchard Park development. He served as the cabinet member for Finance from 2008 - 2009. He was Vice-Chairman of the council from 2009 to 2011, and became Chairman in 2011.

The Chairman's role, as well as chairing meetings of the council, includes representing the council at civic and ceremonial occasions.
