LOCAL CODE OF CONDUCT COMPLAINTS PROCESS

Changes to the complaints procedure

From 8 May 2008 the responsibility for considering complaints that local councillors may have breached the Code of Conduct has moved from Standards for England to the Standards Committees of local authorities.

What this means to you

If you want to complain about the conduct of a member of South Cambridgeshire District Council or a member of a parish council in South Cambridgeshire, you must submit your complaint to:

The Monitoring officer
South Cambridgeshire District Council
South Cambridgeshire Hall
Cambourne Business Park
Cambourne
Cambridge
CB23 6EA

The Assessment Panel can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a member. It will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the Members' Code of Conduct, such as maladministration. If you make a complaint to the Assessment Panel it must be about why you think a member has not followed the Code of Conduct.

The Code of Conduct (This link will open in a new window) and versions of the complaint forms for printing or for emailing are available online or hard copies may be obtained from the Council's Monitoring Officer at the above address. Complaints can also be made using an online form (This link will open in a new window). E-mailed submission of the Word version of the complaint form should be to monitoring.officer@scambs.gov.uk (This link will open in a new window).

Further guidance may also be obtained from Standards for England's website at www.standardsforengland.gov.uk (This link will open in a new window). Standards for England have also produced a guide to Making a Complaint.
