Cambridgeshire Horizons

Driving Forward Sustainable Communities

Cambridgeshire Horizons is the local delivery vehicle for sustainable growth in Cambridgeshire. It project manages the growth agenda for Cambridgeshire, and is responsible for driving forward the delivery of 73,300 new homes, 50,000 new jobs and over £4 billion worth of infrastructure in the county by 2021.

The company was founded in 2004 as a partnership between the six Cambridgeshire local authorities, English Partnerships (now the Homes and Communities Agency)EEDA and other members from the public and private sectors.

Horizons five core objectives are to:
1. Coordinate development and infrastructure implementation
2. Overcome barriers to sustainable development
3. Secure and manage funding for infrastructure
4. Ensure developments employ a high quality sustainable design
5. Communicate the wider benefits of the planned development to the wider community

Horizons is jointly funded by Communities and Local Government (CLG) and partner members, and is a company limited by guarantee. As a partnership organisation, it does not have statutory planning powers, which are the preserve of the democratically elected local authorities.

The Horizons Board, comprising a cross-section of partner representatives and independent figures from different sectors, support by the Joint Strategic Growth Implementation Committee (JSGIC), is the key body through which Horizons' key objectives are agreed. South Cambridgeshire District Council have representatives on both the Horizons Board and JSGIC.
