Young people's Plan

Young people pointing a finger to ask you for help

Our Young People's Plan explains how important it is to us at the Council to make sure that children and young people have a say in the things that affect them in their lives.

We have asked lots of young people if they would like to have a say and, if so, how they think we should do this. We have collected all of the things people told us and included them in our Action Plan that will make sure we keep our commitment to the Young People's Plan.

We need you!

We're really excited to announce that from1st April until 1st August, you'll be able to put yourself forward to join our first youth council. There will be 20 places up for grabs and these are open to all young people between the ages of 13 and 18 who live in South Cambridgeshire.

Lots of you have already told us how much you care about where you live and what ideas you have for your local area, you have also told us how cross you get that nobody asks you what you think. We are now offering you that chance!

Our Youth Council is a great chance for you to have a say in the things that you care about and your local area, as well as being a valuable experience to put down when you're applying for jobs in the future. We really want as many of you as possible to take part, whether you want to have a place on our Youth Council or use your right to vote.

As a youth councillor you will:

- Represent young people in all the Council's work
- Highlight the things raised by the young people you represent
- Support lots of activities and help us come up with more
- Have a real say in things that happen in South Cambridgeshire

There are all sorts of things we think our youth councillors might want to work with us on, including:

- New housing developments (including Northstowe)
- Sports and Arts activities
- Jobs and businesses
- Climate change and Energy
- Communications, including Facebook, Twitter and our website

The list is endless! And although we think these are some of the things you might be interested in, it really is up to you to tell us if these are right and, if not, what you think we should be looking at.

There will be no boring meetings! We can meet you near to where you live and keep in touch using email, Facebook or by post. You can even watch us on YouTube at Scambsyouthcouncil - watch the cake baking antics of our work experience student, Sean Tipple, who is helping set up the youth council!

If you think the Youth Council is for you, please let us know by emailing Tracy.mann@scambs.gov.uk, writing to: Tracy Mann, South Cambridgeshire District Council, Cambourne Business Park, Cambourne, Cambs, CB23 6EA or telephoning 01954 713342. Follow us on Facebook
