Cambourne, a sustainable community?
Cambourne is South Cambridgeshire's newest and 102nd village settlement. Interest in its development is high, and development pressures in the Cambridge sub region mean that there is real value and opportunity to learn lessons from Cambourne's development and apply them elsewhere. At the time of writing South Cambridgeshire District Council is consulting local people on a planning application for the new Northstowe settlement, likely to be three times Cambourne's size and located five miles away to the North East.
A booklet entitled Cambourne, A Sustainable Community? was written by officers of South Cambridgeshire District Council and the Housing Associations' Consortium. Its contents reflect the personal views of contributors and not necessarily the formal policies of the Council or our sponsors. The booklet has been produced for the Chartered Institute of Housing's Eastern Region Conference held at Cambourne in November 2005.
Special thanks to contributors Kate Wood, Christine Adlam, Susannah Harris, Colin Wiles, Kevan Crane; and to sponsors Higgins Construction, Cambridge Housing Society, Circle Anglia, Granta Housing Society, the Cambourne Consortium and the Chartered Institute of Housing.
