Reporting Anti-social Behaviour (ASB)

  • If you are suffering from anti-social behaviour (ASB) it is important that you report problems.
  • If the problem is an emergency and there is a direct threat to life or property you should always call 999.

The table below will help you identify the most appropriate number to call:

Agency to contactCriteria for selecting this agency
PoliceIt is very important that all incidents of ASB are reported to the police on 101. This number is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also rasie issues at your local Police Neighbourhood Panel meeting.
Registered Social Landlord (RSL)(including South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) housing)If you are a tenant of a Registered Social Landlord, including SCDC housing, and are experiencing ongoing issues of ASB and/or and you are aware that the perpetrator is a tenant of a housing association, you should report the problems to a Housing Officer
SCDC Environmental Health TeamIssues such as noise nuisance, littering, fly tipping, dog fouling and abandoned vehicles should be reported to the District Council Environmental Health team.

When reporting incidents, it is helpful if you can provide as much information as possible including:

  1. Times
  2. Date(s)
  3. Specific Place or places
  4. Who is involved or descriptions
  5. Exactly what is happening and for how long
  6. How it is affecting you
  7. Are there any other witnesses
  8. Reason why it is happening (if known)
  9. Action already been taken

As well as reporting the problems, you may find it helpful totalk to your neighbours to see if they are suffering from the same problem. Often the most effective way to tackle anti-social behaviour is when communities come together and work with the local agencies. Working with your neighbours, keep a record of when the problems are occurring, detailing as much information as possible. Incident report forms are available for you to do this.
