Census 2011
What is the census?
The census is a count of the population in the UK. Every 10 years everyone is asked the same questions on the same day to give a complete picture of the nation. It is one of the most important ways we get accurate information about our population; who lives in Britain, where they live, their religion, ethnicity etc.
The most recent census took place on 27 March 2011.
The amount of money that councils have to spend on services for the next 10 years will be based on the number and type of people living in the local area. If everyone does not complete a census form the results won't show complete information about local communities and the council might not get all the funding it needs.
It helps local authorities like South Cambridgeshire District Council plan properly for the future, make key decisions about future policies, planning, services and funding for local communities and provide the public services needed in the years to come.
Working closely with the Office for National Statistics, South Cambridgeshire District Council is helping make sure that the next census is a success.
Find out how South Cambridgeshire or other places in England and Wales have changed over the years by visiting the neighbourhood statistics site (This link will open in a new window). Use the neighbourhood summary box to see how our area shapes up.
The Office for National Statistics (This link will open in a new window) produces a multitude of other statistics and surveys as well. You can have a look at all the work that is being done to accurately describe all aspects of the society we live in. You can look at trends (like families, gender and health).
