Contracting and the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

What is the Freedom of Information Act?

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) is part of a wider government agenda to ensure that public decision-making is more open and accountable. It gives the public a 'right to know' unless there are good reasons why this right should be withheld.  It does not alter the authority's obligations to protect personal data under the Data Protection Act

The effect of the FOIA

The Act came into full force on the 1st January 2005 giving all public bodies a duty under the Freedom of Information Act to respond to requests for information.  This may require disclosure of information that is part of a tender/contracting process.  Before providing any information South Cambridgeshire District Council will take into account the potential commercial risks and contact the company concerned.

If you have any questions or concerns about the Freedom of Information Act or how it affects you as a supplier please contact our procurement officer.
